SEAL BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Clean Energy (NASDAQ:CLNE - News), North America's leader in clean transportation, has added compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling services for CNG fleet vehicles operated by UPS, Amador Valley Industries (a Northern California refuse company), and an advanced hydrogen/CNG (HCNG) demonstration fueling project in Vancouver, BC.

UPS: Modernized CNG Fueling Station Serves Atlanta Package Cars

Clean Energy has worked with UPS to modernize the CNG fuel station currently supporting a fleet of 90 natural gas package cars that provide delivery service to Atlanta area UPS customers. The fleet is scheduled to increase to 132 CNG package cars by early 2008. The Clean Energy-operated facility now features a new compressor and related infrastructure equipment plus four fast-fill CNG fuel dispensers. UPS has one of the largest private CNG fleets in the US with more than 800 CNG vehicles now in use.

UPS began its extensive use of CNG in 1989 to assess its benefits and viability as an alternative fuel. The company reports that CNG particulate emissions are 95 percent lower than diesel engines; carbon monoxide emissions are 75 percent lower; and emissions of nitrogen oxides are 49 percent lower.

Amador Valley Industries: New CNG Fueling Station Serves CNG Refuse Trucks

Clean Energy has opened a new CNG station under a long-term fueling agreement to supply Pleasanton, CA-based Amador Valley Industries (AVI) with clean-burning natural gas for its fleet of CNG-powered refuse collection trucks. Clean Energy designed, built and maintains the new AVI CNG fuel station, and sells the fuel. By the end of 2007, AVI plans to operate 20 natural gas refuse trucks (approximately 50% of its fleet) with some CNG trucks serving Pleasanton, CA, and with dedicated CNG services for commercial and residential refuse and recycling services in Dublin, CA.

Vancouver BC: Clean Energy Fuels New Hydrogen/CNG Bus Technology Demonstration Leveraging CNG Infrastructure to Facilitate Hydrogen Use for Transportation

As a member of the Integrated Waste Hydrogen Utilization Project (IWHUP), Clean Energy has expanded its existing high-volume CNG fueling station at TransLink's (Greater Vancouver, BC Transportation Authority) Port Coquitlam Transit Centre by adding a new hydrogen station to dispense a blended hydrogen/CNG (HCNG) fuel. A newly designed dispenser enables a wide range of blends from 100% CNG to 100% hydrogen. The project utilizes a blend of 20% hydrogen and 80% CNG, which will not only deliver pollution reduction benefits similar to those anticipated for pure hydrogen, but also is compatible with today's CNG-fueled vehicles.

TransLink has converted two of its CNG-powered public transit buses to run on HCNG, and has placed them in regular passenger service. TransLink plans to convert two more CNG buses to HCNG and evaluate all four in revenue service over the next 18 months.

Many believe that the best and most cost-effective approach to systematically introduce hydrogen as a fuel for future transportation use is to leverage the available and growing network of natural gas fueling stations.
