Clean Energy Supports California Governor's Proposal for Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Motor Vehicles

Seal Beach, CA (January 9, 2007) - Clean Energy, North America's leader in clean transportation, issued a statement supporting the call from California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for significant reductions in the carbon content of motor vehicle fuels. The governor plans to issue an Executive Order establishing a new Low Carbon Fuel Standard (10% reduction in carbon content) for transportation fuels sold in California. Transportation accounts for more than 40% of California's annual greenhouse gas emissions, and the state relies on petroleum-based fuels for 96% of its transportation needs.

"This action shows bold leadership by Governor Schwarzenegger in promoting the low carbon strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions," said Andrew J. Littlefair, Clean Energy President. "Certain altecccc rnative fuels, especially natural gas, are already well-positioned to meet or exceed the goals."

Heavy-duty natural gas (CNG and LNG) fueled vehicles reduce greenhouse gas emissions as much as 20% compared to diesel-fueled vehicles. Light-duty natural gas-fueled vehicles, such as the Honda Civic GX, reduce greenhouse gas emissions even more compared to gasoline-fueled vehicles.

"Vehicle fleets using natural gas surpass the governor's goal of reducing carbon emissions and will help measurably in cleaning up the environment in the future," added Littlefair.

Littlefair noted that in Southern California alone over 4,000 transit buses and 2,000 refuse trucks already use natural gas and the movement towards switching heavy-duty vehicle fleets to natural gas is continuing statewide.

Clean Energy is the leading provider of vehicular natural gas (CNG and LNG) and related services in the United States. It has a broad customer base in the refuse, transit, shuttle, taxi, police, trucking, airport and municipal fleet markets with tens of thousands of vehicles fueling at strategic locations across the United States and Canada. Clean Energy is a private company whose major shareholders include Boone Pickens, Perseus Capital and Westport Innovations Inc. (TSE: WPT). Information at: www.cleanenergyfuels.com
